About

Unsung Stories was founded by Jake, Poe, Jack, and Piper Cheney. Laura Belle Cheney (spouse of Jake and mother of Poe, Piper, and Jack Cheney) was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's in 2019, a disease which also took her own mother over 20 years ago. While our journey has not been long, it’s been long enough to see and experience the physical and emotional demands required in caring for someone with dementia.

Caregiving a journey no one should have to go at it alone. As we continue to raise awareness on the impact of Alzheimer's, we will also shine a spotlight on all the amazing caregivers in our communities.

Meet Natalie

Natalie began caring for Laura Belle in 2021. While she had a lot of experience as a caregiver and teacher in many different types of roles, she had very little experience caregiving for someone with dementia. As is her nature, Natalie dove headfirst into this new journey immersing herself in research and giving her whole heart into caring for Belle. She immediately became part of our family. Belle’s spirits rose as her trust, friendship, and love increased with Natalie’s unconditional love. With the burden of day-to-day caregiving lifted from our family, it allowed us to become better caregivers on nights and weekends. It allowed our family to get back to being a family. Natalie is the inspiration behind Unsung Stories. We know there are more Natalie’s out there and we want to share their stories.
